Tyler
Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today that it has signed an
agreement with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) in San
Francisco, California, for Tyler's Socrata® Connected
Government Cloud (SCGC) solution. The MTC will use this advanced
internal data sharing approach to empower its users to access a single
source of trusted data and securely share analysis, visualizations, and
performance measurements across multiple departments and programs.
The MTC is a metropolitan planning organization and is responsible for
the transportation planning, financing, and coordination for the
nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. The agency oversees every trip taken
in the Bay Area, from the BART to FasTrak, and it also focuses on issues
such as climate change and affordable housing. Additionally, the agency
collaborates with a network of other public agencies to help support the
streets, roads, highways, transit systems and other transportation
resources that help millions of people get to where they need to be.
"We are often asked for transit data and land use information from
multiple groups or project planners, and we were looking for a way to
streamline this process and be able to share information easily between
several departments," said Kearey Smith, assistant director of Data and
Visualization at MTC. "With the Socrata Connected Government Cloud
solution, we'll be able to have a more structured and organized approach
to collecting information and sharing that information in a way that
builds trust and confidence with our users. This initiative, called
BASIS, will help us effectively communicate and share our data with
local jurisdictions and help us maintain a strong level of transparency
with all groups."
The MTC has been a Socrata client for several years, using its platform
to power their Vital Signs site, which uses demographic, transportation
and housing data to track trends, measure progress towards our planning
goals, and plan for future growth in the Bay Area. More recently, the
MTC was evaluating its data architecture and was impressed with how SCGC
could streamline and consolidate its software environment, especially
after seeing it in action at the 2018 Socrata Connect conference.
The SCGC will serve as a self-service centralized data repository for
all MTC employees, the jurisdictions it serves, and their residents.
Collecting data can be extremely challenging for an organization of this
size, and SCGC will help jurisdictions like San Francisco, San Mateo,
and Oakland take ownership over their data. In addition, the MTC can use
the transportation data that is collected to cut across data silos and
see how it is impacting issues such as affordable housing and climate
change. It will also help the agency in developing long-range
transportation plans that incorporate information and datasets from
local jurisdictions.
"Metropolitan Transportation Commission has an ambitious vision for
leveraging data to address climate change, create more housing choice,
and sustainably grow the Bay Area," said Kevin Merritt, president of
Tyler's Data & Insights Division. "Socrata Connected Government Cloud
will enable that work by centralizing data from more than 100
jurisdictions into an extensible platform. This natural fit is no
coincidence as Tyler's Connected Communities strategy envisions regional
transformation through fluid data sharing."
