Tyler
Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today that its Socrata
Data Academy, a nationwide initiative to enable government leaders
and information workers with the skills and tactics to put data to use
to impact their governments, has expanded with additional training
offerings.
Socrata Data Academy provides government leaders and employees with the
strategies, tools, and skills they need to make public institutions more
effective. This service offers courses that are designed for seasoned
analysts looking to develop skills in machine learning, as well as
programs for newcomers to data analysis. The training teaches government
knowledge workers how to glean important insights from data to effect
change in their communities.
"We have faith in the power of government employees to transform their
institutions from the inside out," said Oliver Wise, Data Academy
director at Tyler. "We believe that with just a little bit of training,
government employees doing the day-to-day work are in the best position
to make our public institutions more responsive to residents' rising
expectations."
In coordination with Washington, D.C.-based data science training
company, Data Society, Socrata Data Academy attendees can participate in
live workshops and online training. These courses are designed to
empower the government workforce to harness data to drive better
outcomes, identify innovative solutions, and create an entrepreneurial
culture.
"Expanding the Socrata Data Academy is one of the ways Tyler is helping
to empower our clients to be more strategic and responsive to citizens'
needs, and we are excited to see how jurisdictions of all sizes will
thrive from this kind of hands-on and virtual training," said Kevin
Merritt, president of Tyler's Data & Insights Division.
In addition to the on-site Data Academy workshops - which train staff,
program leads, and executives in developing and accelerating data
programs - Data Academy will also offer three of Data Society's on-site
courses: Supercharging Government Intelligence with Excel; Introduction
to R Programming for Government Analytics; and Data Science and Machine
Learning for Government Decision Making.
"This is the first data academy we've seen deployed for government at
such a large scale," said Merav Yuravlivker, CEO of Data Society. "It
speaks to Tyler's deep understanding of its clients and reflects the
increasing need for all employees to be data literate."
With Tyler's acquisition of Socrata on April 30, 2018, Socrata and Tyler
form a perfect alliance, joining Socrata's focus on accelerating the
shift to digital government with Tyler's mission to transform state and
local government to create safer, smarter, and more vibrant communities.
The addition of Socrata's solutions to Tyler's product family enables
clients in every public sector vertical to make their data discoverable,
usable and actionable, while potentially including data from other
jurisdictions to make analytics even more powerful and meaningful.
