Dallas, October 11, 2005 -- Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today that the San Jose Unified School District has contracted for the purchase of financial-based software and services from Tyler's MUNIS division. The contract includes Financial, Human Resource, Revenue and Productivity related software, as well as implementation and consulting services and ongoing maintenance and support. The total estimated value of the contract is approximately $900,000.
The San Jose Unified School District is the first school district in the state of California to choose Tyler's MUNIS software and services, making this contract particularly significant. Since opening its western regional office in Concord, California in 2003, Tyler Technologies' MUNIS division has steadily increased its presence in the western United States. "The addition of the San Jose Unified School District to the growing list of schools that have selected Tyler's MUNIS software for their financial solution is evidence of our successful expansion in the west. We're pleased to welcome them as our first school customer in California and look forward to continued growth in this emerging market," commented Richard Peterson, Jr., President of Tyler's MUNIS division.
"One of the key factors that influenced our decision to purchase Tyler's MUNIS software is the company's commitment to the California education market and their willingness to partner to define and develop California requirements," stated Paul Rische, Director of Information Technology for the school district. He added, "We also like that implementation is done by experienced Tyler employees, not outside contractors." Other factors influencing the district's decision to choose MUNIS software include its Macintosh compatibility and Tyler's extensive experience in converting districts with the same legacy system.
According to Mr. Rische, the district expects to boost operations in several ways with their new MUNIS applications. "We look forward to implementing a modern system that allows our employees to take advantage of new technologies to improve productivity, provide easier access to information for decision making and improve the accuracy of information by reducing the number of separate, standalone databases," he said. He also anticipates that the new software will ultimately foster better interdepartmental communication and make the overall workflow more efficient.
Additionally, the San Jose Unified School District foresees improved position control as a result of implementing the MUNIS Human Resources software. "With a high percentage of the district budget going towards employee compensation and benefits, it's extremely important to make sure all positions in place are authorized and tracked properly," Mr. Rische explained. MUNIS' integrated applications will enable them to meet this challenge.
The San Jose Unified School District lies approximately 50 miles south of San Francisco in the Silicon Valley. The district serves nearly 32,000 students at 51 schools and is the eleventh largest urban district in the state of California. More than 3,000 full-time employees and over 1,000 part-time employees work in the district.
