City of Tuscaloosa, Alabama Selects MUNIS® Software from Tyler Technologies
|
Dallas, August 25, 2004 -- Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today that the City of Tuscaloosa, Alabama has signed a contract to purchase Tyler's MUNIS software for financial and utility billing applications. In addition, Tyler will provide implementation, training and support services to the City of Tuscaloosa. The total value of the contract is approximately $1.2 million.
The City of Tuscaloosa has approximately 78,000 residents and is home to the University of Alabama. In addition to being a center for higher education, the City is a player in the global economy with manufacturing facilities for Chrysler-Mercedes, JVC America and Michelin Tires.
As part of its new financial system from Tyler Technologies, Tuscaloosa will implement several MUNIS productivity tools, including Workflow and MUNIS OnLine.
Workflow uses "push" technology to tell the user when action is required pushing information rather than requiring the user to log on and check for tasks. Through this new technology, action can be taken sooner, increasing productivity and improving the efficiency of internal processes. Workflow accomplishes this by sending an e-mail, instant message, or text message when tasks require a user's attention. Workflow can be used for anything from notifying the finance director when a bank account balance drops below a certain balance to notifying a purchasing agent that a requisition has been approved.
Tuscaloosa will use MUNIS OnLine to provide Internet access to City systems for citizens, employees and customers. The OnLine features of the MUNIS system help reduce costs because employees spend less time looking up information. Because MUNIS OnLine is available outside of regular business hours and eliminates the need to visit City Hall to transact business with the City, it makes the City's services more accessible to the public. For example, MUNIS OnLine allows citizens to look up and pay their utility bills, enables employees to submit vacation time requests, and lets customers apply for business licenses all online, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
"Tyler Technologies' MUNIS software offered Tuscaloosa many advanced features, such as workflow processing, purchasing cards, and online services, for taxpayers, customers and employees," noted Mike Wright, Finance Director for the City of Tuscaloosa. "We expect that the MUNIS system will enable us to extend the highest level of service and accountability that citizens in our community have come to expect from the City."
All of Tyler's resources are dedicated to providing products and services for the public sector, with extensive functionality and advanced technology geared to the specific needs of cities, counties, schools, and other agencies. "We are extremely pleased to begin a long-term partnership with the City of Tuscaloosa," commented Richard Peterson, Jr., President of Tyler's MUNIS division. "We are committed to maintaining our position as the industry leader in providing superior functionality, technology, service and support. As a result, the City of Tuscaloosa can be confident that they will be using a system that is continuously enhanced and is always current."
