Tyler Technologies Unit Achieves Success as Applications Service Provider; Five Clients Signed to ASP Contracts Worth Nearly $1 Million |
DALLAS, June 27 -- Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today that its MUNIS division has successfully completed implementation of its MUNIS(R) financial software at five clients using its MUNIS(R) Application Service Provider (ASP) model. The City of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and the Amity Regional School District in Woodbridge, Connecticut were Tyler's first ASP customers. They were followed by ASP implementations in the Town of Colchester, Connecticut; the North Haven Public Schools in North Haven, Connecticut; and the East Granby Public Schools, also in Connecticut. The MUNIS(R) applications are hosted at Tyler Technologies' new data center in Falmouth, Maine. Clients access the software via the Internet, utilizing a secure virtual private network (VPN). The total value of the three-year contracts with these clients is nearly $1 million.
ASP services provided to local government clients by MUNIS include Application Hosting, Application Leasing and Business Process Outsourcing. With Application Hosting, MUNIS handles system administration, security administration, hardware maintenance, and disaster recovery and fault tolerance for MUNIS(R) applications, all from its data center in Falmouth, Maine. As technology rapidly changes, it is difficult and costly for many local government organizations to maintain the information technology (IT) infrastructure necessary to remain current. This difficulty is compounded by a tight IT labor market which makes it harder for local governments to hire and retain the technical staff necessary to maintain these mission-critical systems. Since MUNIS has the expertise and resources to meet the IT needs of local governments throughout the country, the ASP option provides an excellent solution for many customers. Application Leasing offers the same services as Application Hosting, with the client leasing the MUNIS(R) software instead of purchasing it. Application Leasing dramatically lowers the initial outlay for clients, is easy to budget, provides predictable costs, is easily expanded to additional applications and includes maintenance and support. With Business Process Outsourcing, MUNIS performs for clients such labor-intensive tasks as payroll check processing, W-2 printing and tax and utility bill printing. This eliminates strain on client personnel and systems during peak activity periods.
Eau Claire is the seventh largest city in Wisconsin, with approximately 60,000 residents. City personnel worked diligently with MUNIS to become Tyler Technologies' first ASP client. The cooperation between the MUNIS ASP staff and the City of Eau Claire staff enabled the implementation of MUNIS(R) to be completed in just eight weeks. Eau Claire began operating on the MUNIS(R) ASP on January 2, 2001 and has been extremely pleased with the level of performance of the system. Eau Claire is using MUNIS(R) financial applications, including Accounting, Budgeting, Accounts Payable, Bids & Quotes, Requisitions, Purchase Orders, Accounts Receivable, General Billing, Fixed Assets, Business Licenses and Report Writer, and plans to implement Utility Billing in the near future. The City also plans to implement MUNIS OnLine(TM), which will allow employees, vendors and citizens to access information and complete transactions using an Internet browser. Eau Claire plans to have over 70 users on the MUNIS(R) system, many of whom will be in remote facilities utilizing wireless communications to access MUNIS(R).
Tom Hoff, Manager of Customer Service for the City of Eau Claire, commented, "We are impressed with the level of attention that MUNIS provided. They have been very responsive to our needs and appear committed to customer satisfaction." Mr. Hoff went on to say that Eau Claire sees application hosting as the direction the industry is heading. "It allows our IT staff to focus on other projects, since MUNIS assumes all application software and server administration tasks," noted Mr. Hoff.
"Likewise, MUNIS is impressed with Eau Claire's effort in making the initial MUNIS(R) ASP installation a success," said John Marr Jr., President of Tyler's MUNIS division. "Our commitment to being a leader in the ASP market for the public sector is evidenced by the significant resources allocated to this project. We have not only committed capital resources, but have also staffed our ASP department with some of our most experienced personnel."
The Amity Regional School District in Woodbridge, Connecticut is currently operating their MUNIS(R) General Ledger, Budget, Accounts Payable, Requisitions and Purchase Order applications with MUNIS(R) ASP. They have been fully implemented since February of 2001.
The Town of Colchester, Connecticut and the Colchester Board of Education are utilizing the MUNIS(R) ASP solution for the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Purchase Order applications. Founded in 1698, Colchester has a population of approximately 13,000.
North Haven Public Schools in North Haven, Connecticut and East Granby Public Schools in East Granby, Connecticut are also currently implementing MUNIS(R) software with the MUNIS(R) ASP solution. North Haven Public Schools, another new customer, will access MUNIS(R) General Ledger, Budget and Accounts Payable applications through MUNIS(R) ASP. East Granby Public Schools was an existing MUNIS customer that is moving its General Ledger, Budget, Accounts Payable, and Purchase Order applications from its own network to the MUNIS(R) ASP.
"All of the next generation of browser-based, n-tier architecture software products from Tyler Technologies will be available in the ASP model, and we believe our ASP offerings further solidify our position as the nation's leading provider of software and services for local governments," Mr. Marr concluded.
