City of Durham, North Carolina Selects MUNIS Software From Tyler Technologies to Modernize Operations |
Dallas, June 16, 2005 -- Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) announced today that the City of Durham, North Carolina has contracted to purchase financial-based software from its MUNIS® division. The total contract, valued at nearly $2.6 million, includes professional services and ongoing support, in addition to a variety of software applications.
Under the contract, Tyler will provide its MUNIS Financial, Revenue, Human Resource, and Productivity software designed to help the City of Durham improve its daily business functions. "We are delighted to have such a progressive city as Durham join the extensive list of municipalities, schools, utilities, and other local authorities across the nation who have invested in our software solutions to reap similar benefits," commented Richard Peterson, Jr., President of Tyler's MUNIS division.
According to Keith R. Herrmann, Assistant Finance Director/Controller for the city, the choice to purchase Tyler's MUNIS applications followed a lengthy decision making process. "We did a very, very extensive review and the steering committee found MUNIS to be the choice that best met our needs," he explained. He noted that the decision involved many more participants than the eleven members of the steering committee. "We had a product demonstration session and MUNIS received very high grades during the process," he said. Approximately 120 staff members attended this three-day demonstration session. At the conclusion, these attendees consistently gave MUNIS software high marks. "After evaluating software from some of the world's largest ERP software companies, we thought MUNIS was the best fit for the City of Durham," he stated.
The city's broad assessment of Tyler's MUNIS software applications included speaking with Tyler customers at thirty different user sites, as well as visiting six sites. The fact that MUNIS software is used in more than sixty government sites in North Carolina was a key factor in Durham's decision. Mr. Herrmann added, "We were impressed by the number of government installs MUNIS has made."
The city also found attractive Tyler's business model of providing both the software products and the implementation services, unlike many other companies in the industry. The fact that Tyler provides a turnkey solution eliminates many potential problems that can arise when implementation services are outsourced to a systems integrator or vendor separate from the software provider. Commenting on how the new system from Tyler is likely to improve the way the City of Durham does business, Mr. Herrmann said, "The aspect that gets us most excited is the integration of information." Currently, the city uses a 30-year-old computer system that does not allow applications to interface in the same way the MUNIS applications will. Mr. Herrmann believes this data integration will revolutionize their daily operations. "We'll be able to better integrate the information used in our decision making processes, which we haven't been able to do before," he noted.
With a population of approximately 207,000, Durham is the fourth-largest city in North Carolina and is among the 100 largest cities in the United States. In addition to being known as the City of Medicine, it serves as a cornerstone of the Research Triangle region of the state and is home to both Duke University and North Carolina Central University.
